Some residents of the aging estate, Sanctuary Lakes, Point Cook, recently questioned the transparency of the Sanctuary Lakes Resort Service (SLRS).
A couple of residents also pointed to a lack of communication to residents around a meeting with a local consortium and developers, Schiavello.
The ‘Town Hall’ meeting which was held on Wednesday 30th of July, was also live-streamed online. There were many big items on the agenda, and the aim was to update the 9,000 residents and address their concerns all in one hour.
Owners corporation fees are $2,640.00 with some owners paying more for living in gated areas. This covers 24hr security, the use, and maintenance of the recreation club, lake management, resort maintenance, and owners corporation management.
Air BnB Troubles
One resident raised concerns around a recent party at an Air BnB in the area that had got out of control. It was described in the meeting as ‘a tribe of South Sudanese individuals knocking on our doors and creating havoc on our street’. Some residents were calling for the accommodation to be shut down.
Swimming Pool Availability
One resident that has been in the area for 17 years says that the 3 lane pool is unavailable to residents most of the time and is mainly used for swimming training.
Chairman Craig Pitts said that refreshing and modernization are part of the ‘masterplan’ in order to maintain the quality that is expected in the area. This includes an upgrade of the 20-year old recreation facilities, and after a survey with residents, have come up with a concept comprising of a six-lane swimming pool, a kids pool, a larger gym, fitness studios, change rooms and a larger cafe and restaurant, which would come at an estimated $15M.
It was at this point the subject of conversation became a little more heated, as it is alleged that some landowners who were part of a consortium had approached SLRS with the Schiavello Group to assist in building a state of the art recreational facility but were refused.
The meeting ended shortly after.
