1 in 4 young people will experience mental health issues at one point in their life, this alarming statistic needs to be addressed.
Read The Play is a youth mental health literacy program that strives to increase awareness and reduce stigma around mental health. The program is delivered within sporting clubs to junior age groups using a games-based and interactive method to provide participants with skills, knowledge and to increase help-seeking behavior.
The forum was led by AFL great Robert ‘Dipper’ Dipierdomenico along with guest speakers Mark O’Connor of the Geelong Cats and recently retired Western Bulldogs star Tom Boyd.
All three gentlemen spoke about their experiences with mental health, the positive role sporting clubs can play and the importance of supporting young minds.
Read The Play has been running in the Geelong area for the last thirteen years with recent endeavors to reach more children within the Western Regions of Melbourne.
